Stocking Shop with Sassy Petite Spinners::Update::

oh boy I'm so excited! My Sterling Silver Peach of a Dish was featured in todays Etsy email...if you saw it and convo'd me thank you (you know who you are!) :-) I'm in the 'Undiscovered Shops' as AutumnLeavesHome has yet to make its first sale...so this was thrilling to see mixed in with all the other goodies Etsy chose for this edition...

that's right, I'm filling her up with both Tomboy and Petite spinners for the holidays! (and if you don't see your size listed, just grab the custom size listing and I'll make one or more in your size) :-)

My back seems to be feeling better. I started anti-inflammatory meds, this is a first for me. I was able to hammer and drill yesterday, things are looking UP!

I have some green Jade I'll be working with this weekend, cannot wait to form a gorgeous ring around this stone!

The weather has finally turned a bit chilly. Time to gather ingredients for lots of slow cooker meals. And I have an awesome pumpkin cookie recipe I'll be whipping up soon!!!

Psssssssst...I've got a Seeeecwettttt

It's a sale!

I've decided it's TURQUOISE SALE WEEK in my Etsy shop, AutumnLeavesJewelry. You can see the details of this sale in my shop below my banner. If you have any questions feel free to convo me
:-)

This week is packed full of various doctor appts and I want to offer you sunshine in the form of a lovely sale, to replace my gloom and doom attitude I sometimes sink into.

I also have been feeling recharged and will be making more pieces to pass on to you.

because...

...earlier while meandering 'round my kitchen I shuffled past some drying (okay~ I need to remove them from the big vase and save what few remain and transfer to smaller vase...) flowers and saw one in a state of bloom. That glance, the very moment I saw the tips of this odd looking flower stopped me whole and I walked over to have a look. Really? It bloomed? I don't even know what kind of flower it is, but I'll be recreating my version of it in metal for you.

I want so badly- so much- to tinker with more kinetics and unexpected pieces.

The flower that beckoned me earlier with its petals so proudly pointing up towards the sky opened up a sea of calm within me. (There is a vision of an open palette- as if awaiting a drop of color in form of paint.) The seed is planted and I'm not rushing this new piece, it will be savored and coddled until its forged into something I'm proud of.

Yesterday I Took A Walk...

...and it was so lovely...off I went to Barnes & Noble for more books. I browsed and took in the smell of all that new paper- ahhhh that new-book smell! It was good to get out and move around again (walking gingerly because of recent back issues)...the day was so pleasant and the sky was blue. I stopped under a tree with brilliant yellow leaves and looked up through into the sky, can you imagine how it felt to bask in the glow of all that color?
It was a rejuvenating moment.
As I lugged my new books home it became apparent I wasn't quite ready for the walk just yet...so...that said, I'm seeing my back doc on Wed., and will opt for some physical therapy if its available to me. I don't want meds, I want to be up and going. This resting thing just isn't fun.

Meanwhile I've read all of the Tattoo Girl series, I'm sad the author passed away, but he left us with his 3 gifts.

Currently I'm reading this:
Koren Zailckas has 2 previous books which I've read and would recommend.

The view outside my bedroom  window today is magnificent. The leafy green trees look as if they have been dipped into various bowls of ink. Red, plumb, yellow, orange, and all the variation in between. This is my favorite season-Autumn.

Colors are swirling and flitting as if in dance- through the air and down to the ground as the wind blows through the trees. What a show!!!

I'm keeping my shops open, I refuse to give in completely to this back-business. I'm resting, all is good.

Somebody knocked Her Back Out

...and

it's

me

This is a first, a shocker and it's taken me from when it hit (Saturday night) till this evening to accept it, plan to call a specialist in the morning and rest.

My shop is on a lil vacation. I have 7 pair of earrings to make and send out and will get to them as I rest. I'm so so so sorry for the unexpected delay. I think sneaking in a well made pair here and there will be a nice change from laying in this quite boring and trapped-feeling position.

Anyone who has ever had back issues, I have a clue how you feel. Our symptoms may vary, for me it's like a baseball bat smacking in the middle of my back, electric shock shooting through to my left side to behind my left knee. I'm walking sort of like one of the female apes on Planet of the Apes (original version, I'm old school).

So...careful how you bend!!!!

(I love you sister Roo, you are the best RN and sister anyone could ask for!!!) I'm not freaking out anymore...just taking it easy...

Family Weekend & Our Eyak Connections

~Edit:
Adding a photo of Anna Ehutch, our great grandmother from Eyak, Alaksa, full Eyak.

We enjoyed a really nice weekend with my cousin Gina, whom I will always think of as my little sister. There were 3 of us girl cousins growing up (myself, Gina and Marita). Gina and her son JC drove out from Illinois for a visit. The plan was to see the sites in DC and catch up, we spent almost the whole time catching up. It was so much fun looking through old photos. I pulled boxes out of they wayyyy back end of our large coat closet (which is what I believe resulted in a compromised back muscle). Good news is after  laying on the floor most of yesterday and sleeping with a heat pad I am on the mend. (for those of you who suffer from chronic back pain I feel for you...I don't want to ever go through this pain again!)

Our cousin Jo from LA was in town (DC) too with her husband. So we all met up at my house for a good home cooked meal Saturday night. We enjoyed thick yummy steaks, Johnny's  famous grilled garlic potatoes, and a salad.  The wine was flowing. We started to piece together some more of our Eyak ancestry. We teased out the meanings behind 2nd cousin and 3rd, 4th, etc. We still are curious about the "once removed" saying.

The three of us share the same set of great grandparents~ a Shepard from Back East, and a full Eyak woman who (sadly) died quite young. Gina (middle of pic) and I are first cousins with lots of fond memories of our extended family. Jo, on right, is from L.A. and this is the first time the 3 of us met. If you follow my blog you may have read about our Santee Sioux heritage as well, that was Grandma's side of our family.

I was so happy JC came along with Gina, he is such a cool 17 year old! He and hubby really hit it off with their car talk. And car vids...and errands (probably to get away from the women-folk talking about all this Shepard ancestry!) I think JC saw more of the local (very local) sites of Reston than Gina. We'd planned to do the fun tour of some DC monuments but reminisced instead. (next time we need a longer visit!)

Johnny and JC watching car vids...or noisy car engine sounds...you know...all I can say for sure is both Gina and Earl have done an outstanding job of raising this "kid" as he's referred to.

Gina and Care

These are but a few of the many boxes which I improperly lifted to basically throw my back into a painful tizzy...
My friend Caroline's herb medicine ball came in handy, as did advice from hubby (who has soldiered through back pain and surgery a few years back- oh his sage advice!) and some heat pads. I'm feeling like sawing today!

Last night I was sketching some designs, with kinetic qualities for some new pieces.

There is nothing like completely stepping away from the studio for a few days to rejuvenate and welcome the muse once again!

It's A Wonderful Life

Kym, mother of 3 (holding her newborn) sent this photo of the ring she won from my Etsy shop. She said her eldest son calls it "the cool" ring. I'm so thrilled!!!

Final Hours

of my sale, there's still a few hours to take advantage...and (not related to the sale) even though my birthday was Saturday, as you probably know (if you know me) its been extended thru today :D Nothing like adding a little extra joy!!!

Yesterday the troops headed  out to see the Redskins beat the Packers in OT...here they are...
Grandpa Bert, Angelica and Dad

back photo to show her new jeresy

I have no photos of my slow cooked stew, but it was so good.  I was channeling Julia Child as I actually dried each cube of beef before browning, sans pearls and high heels. Everyone was quite hungry upon retruning from the game. What did they do right after dinner? Watch the next game...
On Saturday we had a fun evening out with our daughter and friends to one of our favorite Irish Pubs. Since lowering my daily salt intake I could certainly taste it in the the Shepherd's Pie, but I didn't give a hoot, it was good pub food!
We came home to birthday cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake (I just recently learned how famous they are...and more important- how delicious!)

We spent the rest of the evening singing karaoke, I think I've worn everyone out over our selection of karaoke cds. Time for some new ones.

The US Post office reopens tomorrow and I'll begin to get my orders out.
THANK YOU SWEETEST OF THE SWEET CUSTOMERS
it means the world to me when you purchase from me!

(i wish i could give you all a cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake!)

Birthday Weekend Sale

that's right, I'm going to offer more savings in these hard times for you :-) It's my birthday tomorrow, the 9th, I'll be turning THIRTY FIVE! (haha- if you know me you'll see the silliness in this declared age)

...so I thought I'd offer 35% off each item.

Same as always, purchase the item and then I will adjust your total via paypal and reimburse you!

Every item IS on sale, even my new ones.  (and made to order items) So, I hope to be a busy girl starting today thru Monday and on into the week as I send out orders for you!

in other news from Care's place:
It's been a pretty busy week here in my studio and in Alexandria where I have been taking ongoing classes for several years now. My lowered caffeine intake has certainly helped my Meniere's. I've rejoined our old gym (and am making hubby go to!) It feels so good to be back working out.
Currently reading the 3rd (and sadly, final) book in the Stieg Larsson series, The Girl Who Played With Fire.

Hubby asked me what I would like for my birthday, and I usually want the same thing, for our little family to do something together, something artsy. We'll cook a home made dinner and have a cake. Sometimes I opt for the fun 'paint your own' pottery. I was thinking of doing an art project for my studio, and as much as hubby will complain I just know once we get going he'll relax and add his most interesting touch to the  piece. Angelica has the day off tomorrow so we are set for family time, my favorite! :-)

Sunday 3 generations will be headed out to see the Redskins play, Angelica, Dad, and Grandpa Bert, I hope to snap some photos of them in their gold and burgundy attire. They are serious fans. (and I will savor my time alone here...) Who knows, I might surprise us all and start a yummy meal in the crock pot Sunday morning.

I hope everyone is healthy and warm! I'm about to add a video soon...yes me, the ham.

Frida and Feathers

I've been channeling Frida Kahlo this week (see post below) and spent today making these earrings for you.

They all swing on their hinge, have gorgeous flowing lines and hold similar symbolic meaning.

All are meant to remind us of the joy of freedom.

Freedom to move
Freedom to dance
Freedom to come out of the dark and shake the dust that holds us down at times out of our heads and fly.

(my last 2 pair of feather earrings sold reather quickly so I was itching to make more, each pair is individually made)

...and as I was getting photographs of these earrings, Bart came around and had so much to say...you should have heard him mew!

Swing, Sweet Frida

Frida Kahlo's colorful paintings, her fingers drenched in chunky colorful silver and stone rings, her big bold beautiful necklaces and the daring flowers in her hair are all behind this piece. She was injured young, and she was a survivor as an artist. Her cast kept her encased in so many ways yet she painted on and dealt with her physical pain.

In contrast I wanted this piece to move, she's kinetic. She swings. The hinged bar allows for this piece to be playful

When you wear her your fingers will be on the bar moving it, and then the turquoise moving the bottom piece over and over, give her a little shake and remember the joyful noises in this world.

My makers mark, and .925 are stamped along the back.

I love this piece!

Every part of this piece is made by me, not including the chain and clasp, which are both also sterling silver

More New Rings...

...ala kinetic, spinners in both Sterling Silver and 14K Gold

14K Gold Petite Spinner with Sterling Silver
US Size 6 3/4

Sterling Silver Curvy Lace Edge Spinner Ring
Size 7 1/2

I was going to take today off, but if you follow my blog, or know me you probably know it's a hard thing for me to do(when I have the energy I tend to grab it till I droop). This artist did wake at 8 to get to the post office as they opened to mail all the Everyone Is A Winner pieces, and 2 new orders that came in. Sans caffeine, the bed beckoned and I woke back up at noon. Worked on these 2 pretties, and am still in my jammies. (I did throw on a jean jacket to catch the last of the Autumn sun out front while wearing my jammies and slippers) It was fun.

I'll list these in my shop tomorrow.

We are headed to the neighbors for a bbq and some fun. Hopefully lots of belly laughs (we always have belly laughs with them!)
