New Pieces...

Hello, it's so early here, the sun is not up. I'm so thrilled with my new pieces I wanted to show you as soon as I could...(note- 2 more necklaces of different designs will be up later...)

How do we say
I Love You

The heart symbol
is ubiquitus
it means

Hand sawed and stamped, patina added to make each message pop and my makers mark along with .925 on the back of each heart.
How do you say

Thank You

For playing my guessing game to win the spinner in the post below...Gina has won.  It was so much fun, and it always feels good to give.

I've got some wonderful necklaces for you, all sterling silver, all ready to ship(perfect for anytime and for VALENTINES DAY...they need to book their photo date, which...will most probably be later today. One of the necklaces is my little spinner on a chain, yes it was so much fun going back to my roots, kinetic jewelry!

Because I no longer solder in my home studio~ it will be sometime in January/February when I'm able to get to the big torch and make more spinners and set some Delicious  stones for you. I've been gathering them up from my favorite stone shop on Etsy, StonesInMotion, all of the stones I've received have been amazing! (I love to share my sources because I think we all prosper...)

Coloring Copper using Gesso and Colored Pencils
I tried a new technique I'm a little iffy about. I'll show you pictures of my results later as well. I'll also source the book where the information/instructions came from. I belong to a lovely group called The Ladysmiths, we are all located in and around the DC Area, VA and MD. Each month The Ladysmiths get together and try out something new, or share an old technique. I didn't make it to this last meeting, (which was too bad) because the class was all about coloring on copper. From the photos it looks like they had a great time and everyone seemed to reap the rewards of artists sharing. (Okay I admit since being invited to the group I've not made one meeting, but I will *shakes fist with jewelry saw in air!) But I do smith with many of these women at the studio we attend in Old Town, Alexandria. There's so many ways to learn and benefit from the connections we make and keep :-)

The HUGE snow storm hit the South, to the East and North of us, we got nil...but oh it's so windy out, and cold...though the sun has been out and I think our days are now getting longer, YES!!!

On a personal note, my left knee is acting up and I've done the xray/MRI thing. Just awaiting word on whether I have a torn meniscus or just a lot of....oh never mind, I don't want to get gross (what if you're eating breakfast?) or too deep into my physical issues, not that I have know what I mean.

I hope everyone shared a nice holiday season and I look forward to working with you sweet customers in the year to come! :-)

John Hiatt, Crossing Muddy Waters

I'm so thrilled he has recently recorded this for all of us to hear. If you ever get the chance to see him in!  Hubby and I have enjoyed his performances. His songs are so touching and sometimes hilarious. This one, hits home deep in my bones.

This is the one I always cry to when he sings it live.

Oh these lyrics...

Pretty Pretty Photo Day for my New Pieces:::Finally Listed in my Etsy Shop

Green Turquoise (what a fat cab!) in fine and sterling silver bezel, with 18k Yellow Gold and Rose Gold...this gorgeous necklace is just that. It has a hand made clasp by Yours Truly, and some interesting elements to make this piece stand out when you wear it. (my makers mark is on the back of the pendant) The piece reminds me of the 1920s era jewelry in color and in style. (Festoons coming up, oh yes, this artist has been reading her jewelry history books) :-)

(I'll be listing these pieces tomorrow) I'm feeling so rushed with my house Frau chores, and to boot (pun intended) the back of my left knee area is pulled again. I wish you could see the way I'm walking around. I'm good for a hearty you don't mind I just wanted to finally get these pics up for you then list after I get some pressies (helping Santa out around the house) wrapped :-)

The sun is out, and a somewhat wise man suggested I used the reflection of the snow to capture some nice pics, did I pull it off?

Baby it's cold outside, and I found out where the butterflies are hanging out! They're climbing up my new necklace. Oh and don't hey just pop with color? They are so pretty, pressed glass, and the sterling silver domed disc was etched by Yours Truly, free-hand. It's a stylized frond. This piece will remind you about Spring, and Hope and all things that bloom and the darkest of days.
My makers mark and .925 are marked on the back of the pendant.

Here's a photo of my husband's family china I used out in the snow to capture these sweet pics. I often talk to my work as I'm photographing, do you?
Here I simply said
"Sit china, good china!"

just had to add this...can't wait to get the album

Afternoon Light

with new pieces does no justice...I'll be capturing these 3 beauties in the morning for you. (and listing them as well)

The greens, turquoise and etching are just so pretty. The 18k gold pops and so does the rose gold. Oh and all that silver....I want so badly to show you!!!

I took over a hundred digi photos and~ really, it's time to wait for that glorious morning light. (I'll be ready, here's a glimpse...) (any other smithers know this type of impatience???)

I had a fantastic work out with my trainer, he's such a good guy.
I still need to get to the shops to finish my Christmas shopping...right after my work-out I felt as if I had tons of energy, yet after the fizzle of my photos, I'm not to crazy about venturing back out into the cold and crowds...

what to do...

oh I some more Eggers...

Ooooo and just a quick nod to Jeannette Walls, it seems we've all read Glass Castle...I recently finished Half Broke Horses,
her latest, and because this book is about (mostly) her grandmother, I re-read Glass Castle. What a treat!!!! Oh you writers!

this is what my hubby would look like if he were an Antelope, I call it

Lovely Day at the Bench

This fell off a fresh bouquet of flowers over the weekend...isn't it amazing how tough it is for such a pretty, broken thing?(It bloomed in the water)

I've got a kinetic bracelet to list: Loopy Loop Bracelet in Circles and Hoops
She's circular, she has spinners of sterling silver balls, and she is so easy to put on and take off. She isn't bulky, but she's firm. I love her. (she's kinetic!)
Loops and loops to play with, and if you wear her with another piece, or near your watch you'll hear a little jingle. She's 8" from end to end and has a little fun tag with my makers mark and .935 stamped. :-)

I was busy mailing some orders that came in over the weekend THANK YOU sweet customers for supporting my Etsy shop! :-)

I'm back at the bench this evening to finish a few more pieces to add to the shop, here's a little sneak preview:

I've got the tunes going, leftovers from last night, water, a warm place with a wonderful family, who could ask for more? I hope everyone is safe and warm :-)

Holiday Madness Sale

hello! I'm offering a sale so you can save your money and enjoy some goodies from my shop :-)

It's been nice a toasty in my studio here at home, no open windows. the only time I need to wear my mask is when I use my flex shaft (for sanding metal and such).

The weather has been super cold and suddenly turned a bit rainy and a wee warmer this weekend. We're due for another cold snap though. No snow to speak of, yet.

I wanted to share a photo of our White Christmas tree. I'm not sure what the best light/dark- time of day- is best to capture how pretty it is. When you walk in to the room, the colors really pop as they go from Purple up to Red near the top. My daughter and I were going  for a color spectrum look.

I'll try some pics later as well.

I'll be adding more goodies to the shop soon, everyday type of jewelry like layering necklaces and simple pearl drop earrings.

The sale is good thru the holidays and I am still offering free world wide shipping. (I cannot promise your item will arrive by Christmas for those of you in other countries). The cut off for Christmas time arrival in the U.S. is mighty soon.

Hubby promised to make me pumpkin pancakes, I can smell them already!!!

Hope everyone is filled with warmth and love!

The Process

of creating a piece is sometimes so fulfilling it causes me to lose myself, and it's such a lovely feeling...

I started using (mostly) cold connections in my studio in an attempt to go eco-friendly, I gave away my soldering things and kept what  would get me through the winter. I still have all my lovely tools...I just couldn't put more chemicals through this old house. If I had a proper vent system, or a detached studio I would gladly continue soldering and using the other chemicals necessary for mainstream metalsmith work at home. (Soon our on-going classes will reopen in Alexandria and off I'll go to enjoy the big torches, mega air suck filters, and surround my weary bones with fellow artists!)

This means, I can stay warm and pretty lung-friendly here at home, no windows need to be open during my process of making items for you! :-) In fact, I gave away my LOS and opted for the old boiled egg trick for oxidizing metal. Here's a golf ball marker that's making its way to Canada as of yesterday...I sure hope it gets there by Christmas!

This was one of the funniest markers yet, you know this couple is very secure in their relationship when these words mean "I love you" (I hope she doesn't mind me sharing, I won't say her name) :-)

Steadily I'm working on this piece, and oh I am savoring all of the sweet moments with it. Every decision and turn and stage feels so freeing.

its taking me away from the looping madness of OCD. I love that my work has this ability...

I love my saw, my tube cutter, my flex shaft, my bits, my cold cold metal block i work on, my metalsmith bench, all of it...and oh the way the sun streams in the morning as I proceed with this piece...

I raise my coffee cup to you, and hope you are warm, your belly is full, and you have plenty of water.
Hope to get some photos of our tree up soon!!!

New Pieces

and my tree is UP...(still need to decorate it...but I do have a theme in mind...)

can't go wrong with one of these fun necklaces! (and it looks so sweet worn with your favorite little lone pearl necklace- I know because I tried it) this statement necklace has a 16" chain and one of my hand made sterling silver clasps. (the length can be altered...just convo me)

I did some metal reppouse work on the silver for these little sweets, they are also slightly convex.
The puffy leaves are so pretty, they have such wonderful colors, offset by a pretty dark pearl. Of course I've added my own ear wires made by me, and my makers mark (so pretty) and .925 are stamped on the back. The raised areas where I did my chasing work will stay silver and the surrounding area darken a bit over time, give you an authentic, old world look!

Pretty pretty drops of teardrop shaped luminescent Rosy colors lend a nice pop to the little dark dainty pearls I've added. The sterling silver sawed teardrop shape allows the eyes to flow up and down this gem of a set of earrings. The ear wires (made by me, of course) are very large and loopy, adding to the overall look.

These will be listed after I return from the gym...

Personal news:
Our dryer's heating coil broke...hubby took it out and showed me, all I could think was ~gee that coil is kind of cool, what could I make with it?~ my second thought of course was, oy, all those clothes in the washer will be hung all over the house, and my dark load was half dry from the's to cold, dry weather for fast indoor drying! (oh, to put on jeans that feel like cardboard, tee hee hee)

We also have our tree, and this year I finally talked the family into an artsy theme which i've always wished to do. That said, I'll be adding/entereing my pics onto Jillians Tree contest over at Plume Gables blog (aka TheNoisyPlume)...I believe she gets MANY to come!

Hubby started seeing the same trainer as me, I'm SO THRILLED! He had his first session and is quite sore, and happy. He just needs to get there by silly-0h-thirty in the mornings to work out, and have some more sessions wih Deuce (if you're reading this honey, you can DO IT! Johnny, not Deuce!)

A special birthday wish to Caroliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine, and to Candace, you guys are so lucky to have Turquoise be your birthstone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would demand turquoise colored frosting, over a very vanilla cake, topped with little turquoise dyed Peeps! :D (with chocolate ice cream)

12 Hours of Sleep

whoa...that was long, awoke to a windy rainy fussy morning, it's 60 degrees and later today the rain will ebb allowing frigid air to move in.  What's that Dylan song about changing with the weather/known to be extreme?

Gym, Table moving and Laundry for me today...I did come up with a very wonderful new design for my AutumnLeavesHome shop which I plan to start later today

my mantra for the day
cogito ergo sum

Meanwhile, oh this Alice piece...does anyone remember its debut? she needs a home...

A custom version of this is just about ready to ship from LuxeCoop

have a lovely lovely day! (stay warm)

Happy Days

Today we celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. The biggest gifts are  found in the smallest moments...we've had so many, and plan to keep our hearts open for more.

(did that sound like a Hallmark card?)

...those words really came from my soul...crikey, am I sounding extra-Hallmarky?

I love my husband, my best friend, my soul-mate, Jonathan! :-)

Here's to LOVE

We've been "together" for about 28 years, know each other for about 30...we are so  blessed.

Okay enough about us.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.  I have 2 more pair of earrings I'll be listing and another necklace, remember today is CyberMonday!!! Use the code ArtRocks in my shop and receive 30% off your order.

is it okay that I mixed business with my love life in my blog?

More Jewelry for the Shop

Simple pieces...these are so sweet...attention to detail as the ear wire loops curve under, just so on both...made by me, of course...juicy drops of sterling silver balls adorn the bottom of the Red Carnelian beads, which are snug under the sweet green glass leaves. A movable spinning copper round bead sits atop, to keep your glass oh so safe! (look for more simple earrings in my shop soon...a gal sometimes needs some pretty dangle earrings with a pop of color!)

a smithed Lariat with Sterling Silver pressed/rolled leaf(rolled by me of course) Pretty sterling silver circles soldered by me, of course. Winter is captured using Turquoise for the blue blue sky, and a winter berry in form of Carnelian Red and Green Leaf beads...this versatile piece is 24" long...and so so pretty

I've got to come...have been busy with other things this morning, trying to find a decent recipe for...(yes I'm going to say it) Turkey Soup, aaaaaaa all this turkey! :-) We're grateful to have full plates.

These guys have headed out to tailgate at the 'Skins game...I need to have hot food when they return later, let's hope for another win!!!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

Windy Day

...gusty winds on an otherwise quiet day...

I finally got to see a pic of my dad's new condo in San Diego, it's so awesome looking!!! (and sunny) My dad looks great too...still getting used to being the last Shepard back East...

We're going to have to make a trip to San Diego and Portland soon :-)

Our 24th wedding anniversary is coming up, and I have requested techie stuff, I guess I'm geeky in this way. (oh sin! we've really been living together for several more years than our wedding day...)

The Redskins play Vikings (home game) tomorrow, with 3 generations from our house attending. It will be a nice quiet day for this artist to spend in the studio. Having a meal ready for their return will be easy, you guessed it, turkey and all the trimmings :-)

This fat little package is heading to BR's today, it's full of vintage earrings and some awesome
AutumLeavesJewelry niece Cady is delivering and I sure hope she makes it faster than the old Pony Express...

meanwhile I have a couple of Etsy items to pack and mail.

Happy Black Friday with 50% Off

All you have to do is enter BLACKFRIDAYSALE2010 in the space provided when checking out in my shop AutumnLeavesJewelry and your total will be automatically adjusted for you :-) Thank you and happy shopping!!! :-) (after sale I'll resume my custom sizing of various rings)

Flawed, but Not Broken
This gorgeous Turquoise ring with a 14k Gold Band has a teeny tiny little bitty flaw in its bezel, if you look to the lower left you'll see a little corner missing from one of the tiny "teeth" area of this otherwise flawless design. It's 50% off, and looks fantastic on!

yesterday we enjoyed a family gathering at our house...I decided to use my husband's  grandmother's old linen table cloth (hand embroidered) and some of my stash of vintage and new linens. Most of the dishes were a mix-match of his grandmothers china as well...and some of my old finds. I really enjoyed setting the two tables. I didn't get a photo of the table we served some of the food from, just the main table...

Hubby ordered a Kosher turkey, I believe it saved him from brining (is that a word?)

Angelica, our daughter, had to work but made it home in time for dinner. My SIL Rebecca and her 2 kids were over, as well has my FIL.

It was pretty awesome to see Becky playing Scrabble with her son Gray (the real game, not online)...

We also were able to chat (in between cooking) with Roo, my other SIL and 4 of her 5 kids via Skype. It was a hoot to see her pull out her turkey and show her ours, hands down hers was prettier! Cousins were able to catch up which (imho) is the luxury of technology.

No pics of my dad, who now resides in San Diego near my uncle and his wife. I did spy a photo of said aunt and uncle on FB, but no papa...grrrr...looks like they had a fine time out.

I hope everyone had someone to share the holiday with :-)

a pic of Cadence, who  took the pic above...
