New Rings with Photos :-)

New Spinner Ring with 18k Yellow Gold, Sterling Silver and 14k Rose Gold Rings
This is pretty chunky, but very comfy. It has been very texturized on the outside and is smooth on the inside. The edges were given a fluted flowery shape. The whole ring was oxidized so the gold pops very well.

I love my sister in law, and I love her hands!

listing more, hold on I need to get some water

::back to post more pics::

14K Rose Gold Bauble and Sterling Silver Ring, made to order
This simply sweetheart ring has a 14k Rose Gold ball which sits at the top of a sterling silver ring, made to fit you, and the sterling silver ring is textured along the top with tiny lines...

Can you tell she's not a smither? She's a teacher and a writer...

My beautiful niece, Cadence, was sporting one of my Bella Luna Pendants in Sterling Silver...

Then Cadence paused to take these pics for you...aren't these photos of the butterfly amazing?

I needed a nice shot of this necklace on a real live person. This is already listed in my shop. It has a 22k Yellow gold spinner ring over an oxidized tube (tube made by me) and sits on a shiny sterling silver chain.

My new Sterling Silver Short Stack of 2 Bangles still needs to be listed in my Etsy shop...first I wanted them viewd on a model

This is my Dreamer on the Edge Sterling Silver Spinner Ring (very chunky) which is already listed in my Etsy shop. It also needed to be shown on a finger...

Poppy Ring in Sterling Silver, this is a variation of my most recent. It has some silver 'buds' in the flower, and the flower itself is sawn from thick Sterling silver. I've also used a pretty and plain sterling silver half round wire for the ring...

there are many more, most are updates of some pieces I wanted on the models...and this, well...this is just me and my sweet and beautiful niece Cady...(we were wilting in the humidity!)

I need a brain planner

to plan the things I've pre-planned and remind me to never ever call someone before I've fully woken up...IOW before poor SIL (with the gorgeous hands, gorgeous everything) is coming over this afternoon to allow me to shoot more pics with rings and new bangles. She will walk away with a swanky new ring too!

I was planning to make up a class at The Art League, thinking she was coming tomorrow, she had no idea I was thinking she was coming tomorrow, how could she? I am so disorganized at times and yet have such intense OCD. Weird.

(this all has to do with my confusion over my FIL having eye surgery this morning, hubby taking him, (and who is taking hubby to the kiss & ride to head to work later?, what cars are available, etc.) so you see, I tend to spaz over my own imagination of events yet to happen, can you relate? (oh God, someone please tell me they can relate!!!)

Sitting with the neighbors cats early this morning I allowed myself to just BE~ to relax and realize everything is fine. Nothing catastrophic is going to happen because I changed plans...

Here's a sweet tidbit, a baby will be born today. (I know there are a lot of babies are being born around the world as I write this) My next door neighbor is about to drop, her MIL told hubby and I that if he wasn't out by today, he would be out at some point today. So, here's to new life, new beginnings and the glory of it all.

I wish a coffee fairy would fly in with a hot cuppa from Charbucks right now! :p
I wish I could see my friend Jainie who has moved back home to Knoxville, TN, I miss her and it's been years! (no one calls her Jainie any more...but she's always 'Janie' to me!)
The movie Revolutionary Road has me wanting to read the book.

Pics of the new goodies later!

This stone has been sketched, adorned, seated in it's new bezel

and will be revealed here tomorrow or Friday. I have a make-up class at The Art League Schoolin Old Town Alexandria tomorrow...unless (as it looks now) things come up in which will keep me home for most of the day.

From Gemcutter's shop on Etsy
Designer cut cab of Yellow Opalite from Australia.
Measuring 36.5 X 21.5 mm, 4 mm thick.

Either way, I learn so much each time I go back to class. There's something electric and moving about being around other artists for hours as we hammer, drill, bend and shape our ideas into tangible art. The next set of workshops will start in September, so I do hope to make it to the last class tomorrow. Over the years I've been fortunate to get to know some very talented and lovely people.

So...HI hihi! I need to list the Fields of Gold Pendant as well, It's shown two posts behind this one. It has 14k Yellow gold, sterling silver and pierce work, as well as agate stone~ and toggle closure made by Yours Truly.

If my neighbor allows me, I want to post pics of her 2 kitties I'm looking after this week. (really they are full grown boys) One is so huge, he is so huge he cannot make a full circle to chase his tail. They have me completely trained when I first walk in. They make me:
Toss dry treats out to the upstairs foyer where they Fetch and eat.
Play laser (where I pretend they don't know it's me holding the laser mouse and they pretend I don't know they know...) they love that red light.

Has it ever been better than Bob Dylan?

imho it has not. Anyway, it's been a super emotional night here and I found this...and remembered (way back in the 70s) sitting in my room listening to album after album after album...(before we had PCs)...when we typed on old heavy typewriters and doodled with real ink.

This song always reminds me of my daughter's aunt, Karin, and my daughter...I'm sure it evokes all kinds of memories with everyone...

Forever Young
by Bob Dylan
Album ~ Planet Waves

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young.

Warm Black, 3W, Yeah, that's my color!

This is so much more fun to do at home, I save a ton of money, I get to have my Reeds ginger ale on ice, blog and run around in my smithing clothes...roots first, then the rest of my hair...

Will you be my best man?

Seriously, all joking aside, these are some of the sweetest golf ball marker requests I've had the privilege of making. What a sweet way to ask someone to be a part of one of your most special days...(they were sent with Autumnal hued origami envelopes, not my standard b&w stripes)

these pretties went out yesterday and i hope they both say YES! :-)

Speaking of weddings have you all seen the dance down the aisle video on Youtube? It is a very feel good vid :-) (i love it and I can't dance) :P Hubby says I have my own beat I dance to. (think Elaine Benis of Seinfeld)

This video makes me smile!

Pic preview of my new Sterling Silver and Turquoise Cuff

here she is...i sure had fun with her...

she's bold...and chunky...(oh dear, I feel like i'm describing myself now...)

It's been a long 2 days. I've got ball markers to mail out tomorrow. They are so special, extra special because of the meaning behind these. I'll have pics up tomorrow morning. I also managed a few other goodies. None will be for sale until I move out what I currently have on sale. :)

Right now I'm going to head over to my book, re-reading 'Tis, by Frank McCourt.

Kitty ears helped me stay focused...(not really, but they did keep my hair back in all this humidity)

Sale, as promised on all items in my shop marked Ready To Ship

8 items are currently on super sale. I will be adding more in a few minutes. They are in my section entitled 'Sale oh sweet sale' they also have the words Sale-Ready to Ship- in their titles.

I would love to see these items frind friendly homes. :-) I'm working on getting my newest items finished, photographed and placed in my Etsy shop by tomorrow.

The fan is whirring, the windows to the studio open, tumbler is a rumbling and a pieces is cooling. My shop is hopping and I'm one giddy gal.

Hope there is something you might find in my shop you've been eyeing.

Onto my sale prices now in the Shop.

Tokens of Love in Metal

Through a sweet Canadian customer the realization came that my golf ball markers are really tokens of love. A way to ask someone something very very special (did I really really need that extra very in there? sure why not...) With her permission I'll get pics later today and show you what I mean.

I'm also daydreaming of Black Eyed Susans in metal as pendants.

If the weather holds I'll be swimming laps later.

Frank McCourt will be missed

his story telling was so incredibly moving. He seemed ageless, I didn't even realize he was sick...

Will be rereading
Angela's Ashes
Teacher Man

luckily I have 2 on CD with his narration. Wow, what a huge loss to those of us who wait for our favorite authors to create more magic for us...

anyone else read his books?

home from trying on swimming suits

wow, i purchased a 2 piece, as in a tankini top and a bottom with a skirt. last week i began to swim (laps) and noticed right away that my (old) bikini (HAHAHA) would not do! so, after a couple of hours at Macy's (yes they have amazing sales and a big selection) i finally settled on this suit.

you will never ever see me in this swimming suit -_0

i've been steadily dropping weight and so happy about it, UNTIL...i looked in the mirror at Macy's with the suit on...those mirrors are sooo evil - hence my expression in the photo aping Dr Evil

so...that's it for me today, mailed a ring, (i was so thrilled as it was already made and is a gift for someone!)

other than that...this diet is making me grumpy...

Cuff Coming to Life, back to jewelry making for Care...

I have a 20/20 respect for smithers who take their time and go thru all the necessary procedures when working with metal. I am coming to believe more and more that a steady pace is better than a fast assembly-type line (remember that classic 'I Love Lucy' episode wher she's wrapping chocolate from the conveyer belt?)
where items are cranked out. I say this from my own experience. (golf ball markers and other sweet items) :)

This cuff was started from 16 gauge sterling silver sheet. (It was purchased a while back for making super chunky spinner rings ~ of which I've made and sold.) From now on I'll use 20 or 22 gauge, if anyone has thoughts/opinions on this please feel free to comment!

It was time to make a cuff, but I didn't want a super thin one. I wanted chunky. So...what a perfect time to channel my chunky metal in my smithing class.

My instructor is Nick, he teaches at The Art League in Alexandria. (The Art League is associated with the Torpedo Factory) Nick has been making beautiful metal pieces for years. (He's a gem too!)

I've been taking his classes off and on for the past few years, and he has quite a following (students, know...followers :P)

Anyway there are other amazing smith instructors at the Art League if you live in the Baltimore/DC Area and are interested in learning to silver/metal smith, I have a link to the lower right side of my blog.

Okay back to the sterling silver cuff. I started with 16 gauge. (Crazy huh?) Well I did roll it out to 17 gauge. (It's really important to anneal your metal in between these next steps.) I planished it to even out the strip so I could then solder the bezel to the band. There are several methods I could choose from as far as placing the bezel.

There are so many nuances about building a piece like this to take into consideration~
Overall Look and Balance (art is subjective eh?)
Comfort (taking it on and off - the edges need to be very comfortable, and it should fit and sit well)
Durability (this will be bent slightly as it goes on and off a wrist so thin thin metal does not seem appropriate, imo)
Building Steps (what goes first, second, third, etc...) this is something you're taught and learn the hard way) I have learned to write things down.
Tools (appropriate tools, what will work for all of the things mentioned above, down to the yellow ochre used to keep the solder in place, etc...)
Patience (nothing has to be finished in one sitting, that's my new motto. I would rather make an outstanding piece than redo - which some of you know I will do and do to get it right)and I applaud those of you who can make a wonderful piece in a sitting :-)

These steps seem stern when I read them over, but really they are just basic pieces of information to keep in mind (I am by no means an instructor or on that level of expertise). Blogging about these steps is helping me to instill these as well (nothing can replace actually building your piece)

So...until next week when I finish the overall design and set my stone, here she is. (notice the Yellow Ochre, lol...I have 3 more lines to add. I prefer Yello Ochre to White-out for solder control) Also the ends are soooo not what I have in mind for a pleasing detail (I see the ends as blank canvasses and they make me drool...) I will probably stamp a piece of poetry to the back and, of course - my mark.

Also, I had a boo boo on my left pointer finger. It turned black right away...then later while using a rawhide hammer, i hit the same spot, ouch! Live and learn!

Driving home from Alexandria is interesting because the distance to home isn't super far, but traffic in the DC Metro area is usually a mess. I do get to have a gander at the Washington Monument and pass the Pentagon, as well as Arlington National Cemetery, all sobering sites.

Speaking of sobering...I sat out back on the deck when I got home and took this shot, I forgot my FRESH lime in my Corona! :( A lime makes all the difference.

Sale~Super Sweet Petite Tomboy Spinner Ring Sale!

Normally she is 55$ and for a limited time will be sold at 40$, which is a fantastic deal.

My Petite Tomboy Spinner Ring is offering herself up for a sale again! These are one of my favorite types of spinner rings to make. She's a tough little ring but very feminine. She takes no prisoners, but starts no wars. She's just a great ring all around (pun intended) She's super spinn-eeey and would love to find a new home!

Stark Red or Fine China for photos?

Trying to capture nicer pics of the Sterling Silver Ring Dishes, still working on it, these were taken inside, on fine China, I still think I like the stark contrast of the deep red as apposed to this dainty pink. What do you think?

Sunday Coffee Date with Hubby

He is such a sweetheart, he truly is. we sat out back on our deck and listened to the birdies, squirrels and saw some wild animal run from our hostas (the cats were intrigued). It seemed to fast for a groundhog, and unlikely to be a raccoon, who knows, it may have been a very fast very fat cat! :p We also ventured to the coffee shop to get some sun and time alone.

I just took some better pics of my silver dishes. I'm hoping to list the second one later, blogger is not liking my photo uploading abilities at the mo, I tried several times to get the above pic posted.

Also trying to take the whole day off...we'll see how I fare.
:-) Hope everyone's Sunday is wonderful!!!

a new Dish, this one is Riveting...

at least it has been riveted. I loved making this. It took a lot of energy to get it just the way it was important to get some movement into a dish piece, so, here she is, her leaf moves in a full circle as you can see.

Does this dish look coy?

this is Diamond from just a bit ago, we keep little boxes around for our cats to snuggle never know where a pair of ears will pop up at you...

I'll be producing one SOON with a movable lid...oh the wonders of kinetics, I love to make things move in metal...

and I'm so friggin down...though the good news is hubby, who has been out of town since Wed will be home tonight...and I keep reminding myself that the sadness will pass, the moods will even out...the anxiety will quell...truly I know that.

Introducing...Bart the Cat Brooch be followed by many more. Bart is my very inbred cat, he is white with blue eyes and not too big in size. Bart hunts. He hunts for the family. Sometimes he eats his prey, other times he leaves them in his special spots for us.

He also mews like Marilyn Monroe. It's very breathy and lovely, but not very hunter-like. When he was a wee lad, his sister/ know (inbred) sister nursed from his belly until he was about 6 months old. He would look up at us and give us a very sad, desperate breathy Marilyn Monroe "mHEW". We discussed it with our vet and found out at some point it would just stop. 'Some point' occurred when Bart decided to swat his sister away from him.

I plan to play around with these brooches and offer up pieces of Bart in various situations. (I'm a huge cat lover)

I'll keep this one, it has a sterling silver brooch soldered to the back and the conversation area is copper. I'm not thrilled with the copper area, so will use all sterling silver after this.

I hope you like it.

Oh, and I missed class today so hope to make it up, I had so many chores to get done and quite frankly was feeling pretty down the past 2 days. Smithing has helped me keep my moods in check and express emotions in metal.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Oh! Please, rest your ring here dear!

Here's another, this one I will list in my Etsy shop...soon.

It's all sterling silver and as you can see holds a nice, good sized spinner ring. It's domed nicely and the edges are very smooth. I gave it just a touch of leaves along one side for interest.

More to come...

I hope you like this one! :-)
