The Lovely Bones is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold. It is the story of a teenage girl who, after being brutally raped and murdered, watches from heaven as her family and friends go on with their lives, while she herself comes to terms with her own death. The novel received a great deal of critical praise and became an instant bestseller.

A film adaptation of the novel is currently in post-production and is being directed by Peter Jackson, who personally purchased the rights. It is set for release in the USA on December 11, 2009 .

Jaim! Perfect timing for a reread! :-) I remember you have this listed in your faves!
Pam, it's out on Trade Paper, but widely avail in used book stores, and the libe-aaaary :P I think you'd love love love it!

The guy who plays the neighbor does not look like Stanly Tucci! And yeah! Michael Imperioli! (Sopranos fame)plays the detective. Wow, when did Susan Sarandon get to be Grandma? (she looks like a hottie grandma)-
Mark Wahlberg, and I finally hit my forehead and realized the girl, Susie Salmon, is played by the girl (oh double doh) who was in Atonement- Saoirse Ronan - (the movie)...

I know Dana!!! December they say. If you do a wiki search it looks like there was quite a bit of 'artistic differences' going on and the cast has changed? Dunno...all I know is WOOT! (the music of Susie and her friend in her in-between Heaven is so moving in the trailer...)
