My Garden Mess

Okay~ I'm being very brave...here is the left front of my garden, omgosh I weeded as much as I could...as you can see I have mums in bloom, ??? don't know why...

Here's the Butterfly Bush gone wild, I have trimmed it way back...it's still tall but not as wide...

this is the front left of my garden, see how everything is growing together? ugh...oh and I forgot I had 3 hostas in front, I have several in back doing very well...

This is our cat, Diamond, you should see her coming in after a good rain storm, she is not white, she is mostly covered in brown, leafy, grimey gook

Right side of my front garden, what a mess, the neighbors tree is causing my (once sunny area) day lilies to lean way over, see that huge mum there? I am tempted to just pull it out, it's centered which I don't like, but it's also beg of July, not Fall! :P It will also collapse soon and the buds will flower laying down...

This is my eye, left eye, no twitch...

I love your garden. I have mums here that bloom early (maybe may), but I just prune them back & they come back like gangbusters in Oct.

oh good thanks Pam! I can handle doing that! :P Can mums be propigated, that may seem very cheap of me eh?

Willow Branch said...

That's not being cheap at all. I do that with my hostas, etc. Wait until the mims are dormant then cut the tops. Gently remove the babies from around the mother & replant them or put them into pots until you're ready to plant them. I don't know when would be the best time for you, but you should be able to find something online.

I got it!!!! I got it!!! I got my hand corsage & it's perched on my finger right now. I just love it!!! One of the coolest designs I've seen. It's all shiny & brilliant. Thanks!!

Love ya,

Pam

ps. I startled one of my mail carriers because as he was putting it in my mailbox, I opened the door to get it. teehee

I agree with Pam, I pinch my mums back in a few weeks, and then they usually will bloom again in fall. I also split mine up every couple of years if they get too big and move them around (I made four mums out of one mum this spring). Your garden looks lovely. Hope you are less twitchy and feeling better.

Yay Pam! I love that you called it your hand corsage in my feedback, you go girl! :-) I'm just thrilled you like it!!!!!
I just spent about 2 hours ordering the most simple cards for the shop...
that is very good to hear susie, i don't want to waste and I dislike getting rid of pretty plant esp right before they bloom!

Love the look of your garden Carolyn.Like you, I'm not one for ordered plantings but like to let Nature have a fairly free reign. I just love buddlejas! I have two similar in colour to yours, deep purple called 'Black Knight',also a large white flowering one.Cutting them back after flowering is such a task for me...secateurs then large pruning saw to cut back thick branches!I've had it for the rest of the day after that!

Being winter time over here,my gargen is fairly under control but I'm focussing on my vegie patch.Yummy, leafy greens, broccoli, cabbage, caulis, carrots, silverbeet, are all looking good...!

Take care,and I love that sophisticated,one eye over-the-glasses look!

Carolyn, to stop your mums from blooming early and to keep them so they bloom in fall, just cut them back through out the summer...that's what I do done it twice since Spring already). It also helps them become more fuller and round....just ship off about an inch or so. It won't hurt the plant...in fact to get alot of your annuals or perrenials to become fuller, always snip them back some here and there...it forces them to send more stems/branches out to produce more flowers. Yes, I worked in a nursey and my dad has a green thumb, that must have rubbed off on me some.

Candace that's very good to know! thanks! :) I'm getting the best advice and I love it!!!
Maryann is buddlejas the same as a butterfly bush? I think it must be because you mentioned what it's like to deadhead, the branches are long and tall, and yeah, oh boy when I need to remove near the base it's quiet a clip!
I'm not sure where Lisa is hopefuly she's still relaxing, or driving back North? :P Knowing her she'll reappear with 10 gorgeous rings!

Your cat is beautiful!

And so is your garden. If it was mine, it would probably be all dead...
