Away from Jewelry and into a new area

and I’m loving it. This is a prototype of what I’ll be building on. I hope to have a series of boxes/containers/vessels; I’m not even sure how to categorize them yet. But I want to move a little away from jewelry and I've been sketching out boxes, containers with lids, etc. ~sweet metal containers to hold something special~ I hope to have many sizes and will use various golds and sterling silver with various heights.

I did make a square, I'm going to keep it and after I get another made I'll post both pics, but here's my roundie box with poppy top...It's not quite finished, I'll be adding handmade catches and hinges (which I learned a while back from a very wonderful and talented smith instructor)...so here is the beginning of a new area for me...

For Caroline of the Prairie, a bloom of Hibuscus for you :)

My semi alert old boy being very active, the sweetest boy I know, he's now snuggled up next to me purring/sleeping after a little milk...he is so precious...

I hope to open my shop tomorrow and will have limited jewelry items for a while :) Thanks for looking and bless you!!! Hope your July is lovely!!!

Congratulations on your new venture. I think we all need change now and then. I go back and forth between silversmithing, quilting, jewelry, pottery and whatever else hits me at the time. Your garden looks great and the kitty cats look content. All is well. Tell Mr. C hello. Can't wait to see your new creations. P.S. How's the untalkable project coming along?????

hi guys! thanks for the encouragment!!! I'm just loving the new ideas floating around in my head, you know that feeling right???
I have one of his big books Sal, I'll look specifically for the one you mentioned. I love pieces that move, which is why I focus on spinner rings...kinetic jewelry...
I'll still be smithing, and you know I'll do jewelry, just not as much. (crikey I'm having separation anxiety now...) :-/
The flower is so yummy, amazing what beauty is all around us!
aww thanks about my cat, he is soooooo ancient and such a sweet gentle giant! (though he's shrinking a little)
I will have to upgrade to the big torch now...fo sho!
I'm even thinking about taking more classes, I used to love my weekly classes...yes it's time to go back :)

Oh wow Care!!! That box is amazing. I look longingly at the boxes with the hinges & catches, but I don't think I have the patience to be that exact. I'm not great at all things square, plumb & level, but I can't wait to see what come up with. You can incorporate kinetic into some of the boxes with little whirley things on top.

Wow guys, (thanks for more kudos!!!) it's very odd to go from creating a 2"-ish round box to a teeny tiny intricate (by comparison) hinge in the same day...which is why I did not. My arms also said "enough" lol...
Nina have you signed up for any of Nick's classes? I think I'm going to today. :) I miss the group of people that attend (some have been there for about 10 years, it's lovely really!)
