Here's my great grandma from Alaska, I have ivory and scrimshaw pieces from this part of the family...trying to find pics of my grandma and great grandma from Santee Sioux side to post...There are only two of Anna (shown) that exist. She married a Shepard from Back East. The Shepard family goes way back to 1700s in US. Of course Eyak's go back further ;-P

I enjoyed your blog on your Great Grandmother. The family treasures that you have and your history that you have is priceless. One of my hobbies is researching my family tree. I have hit many speed bumps. I hope to go back home to Oklahoma next summer to talk to famliy members (elders who can still account for much of the family history),obituaries and look at family bibles. My research so far has uncovered Choctaw and Creek ancestory. Great post!
She is beautifull Carolyn!
Tamara, I was hooked on Ancestry.com for a few years and gathered as much as I could. As far as Natives go, well there are only so many records, and they only go so far back because of pre-reservations and in Alaska, well...if this woman had not married my great grandpa, she would never have been in a dress I'm sure!!! I love genealogy too, it's so cool! Hope you find more about your Choctaw and Creek!
Bella Jaime, thank you! You can really see the Asian/Native Alaskan you know?
I stopped researching and its been a while. I would go on Ancestry.com in the library. It's free there, not many are aware of that. I sure wasn't. The librians are so helpful. I hope they prove to be as helpful whe I return home. I also found out that diabetes is a common health concern among many Native Americans. It runs in my family.
